Rapper Dillz shows he cares on new album
Jewish Telegraph, October 2020
JEWISH rapper Kosha Dillz has a host of special guests on his new album Nobody Cares Except You (Rapperfrends).
Joining the artist also known as Rami Even-Esh are Matisyahu, Fat Tony and Gangsta Boo.
The 14-song album is produced in majority by Sam Barsh and 16-year-old Snowball Beats, but also includes three songs with hitmaker Jeremiah Raisen, aka Sad Pony, and a guest track from Kool Kojak.
The title was based on the realisation that being self-seeking will never fulfill him entirely.
Nobody Cares Except You had been scheduled for release in April, but Covid-19 put a huge spanner in the works, causing his 28-city American tour with RDGLDGRN and Little Stranger to be cancelled.
Kosha Dillz describes album track We need Schmoozin’ as a Yiddish klezmer party song.
To tie in with the album, he will be giving street performances to raise money for #saveourstages and NIVA, as well as NYC Nightlife United, to provide relief to venues and venue workers in an industry that has come to a stop due to coronavirus.
“I’d rather use attraction vs promotion. If you know me, I have promoted myself so much that I think is time to promote everyone else that deserves it and doesn’t have a voice,” he said.
Of Nobody Cares Except You , Dillz said: “When I started to make this album I was unsure about getting anyone to care about it in this new world.
“I saw that no one cared about anything if you were an unknown. I became obsessed with the idea of my stagnant popularity and growing a dedicated fanbase. I realised that I hadn’t hit the level of success I wanted, because I had to genuinely care about everyone else, and that takes time.
“The more I do that, the more I will actually take care of myself. Sometimes it takes longer than we want.
“I needed to be showing lots of love to deserving people whether they reciprocate it or not, and that also includes me.
“I was able to raise more than $20,000 on Kickstarter to help create this. It changed the tone of most of the music and helped me embrace myself.
“After recording dozens of songs, I trimmed it down to my most honest and unique songs with the best producers in the world. Then I rearranged it. Then I had to arrange it again. Now we are ready.”
